Being familiar with the principles of stage space functioning, knowledge of the naming convention of stage technique elements,
-the ability to arrange the spatial composition correctly,
-the ability to draw scene plans: preparation of technical drawings with dimensions and full description,
-the ability to design with the use of a model
-the ability to define a drama character with the use of different elements of the costume.
-the ability to design the lighting of objects and surfaces correctly, to select the right materials, textures and colours, in order to achieve the desired artistic effect.
BA/Undergraduate students are offered to take part in a 2-semeter program, which is an introduction to designing scenography, teaching them basic skills in shaping the space of the performance within the theatre building.
The program's aim is for the students to acquire knowledge on the basic principles of optics, creating optical illusions and the operation of light in space as well as on the basics of theatre costume design.
Understanding the course of the design process and the production of the sets, e.g. by visiting the backstages and the theatre workshops, will allow the students to realize the complexity of a theatrical production.

Fundamentals of Stage Design course deals with the design principles of scenography in the traditionally understood theatrical space, divided into stage and auditorium.
A critical reflection, both on the traditional conventions and on the contemporary theatre practices, allows to find a common denominator for designing scenography – namely the visual narrative.
Stage design, understood as a visual narrative, uses a suggestive set of images creating the play/the performance, but also determines its perception.
Set designers determine what is seen and how it is seen. They are aided in their task by the existing theatrical space, divided into stage and auditorium. The spatial relationship between the stage and the audience is one of the means of expression, together with the precisely chosen material structure of the performance, or the colour and intensity of light. The costume completes the whole.

In addition to the course, the students are offered to take part in the Design Workshop, which enables them to participate and assist in the production of a performance in a selected institution, e.g. Wybrzeże Theatre, Baltic Opera or Gdańsk Shakespearean Theatre.
