subject description

The Passive Architecture Basics Laboratory was established in 2016 at the Faculty of Architecture and Design of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gda?sk, in the field of Cultural Space Architecture.
The workshop deals with issues related to public spaces, especially in the context of cultural heritage values. When designing, we strive to fully integrate the designed objects into the surroundings, covering not only its form and aesthetics, but also the operating conditions - i. e. shaping highly energy-efficient architecture, drawing its energy mainly from the natural conditions of the place where it is created. For this reason, we are particularly interested in passive architecture as a modern trend in architecture, aiming at the maximum harmonisation of all aspects of the building's existence with the natural environment.
The basic course is designed to provide creative and practical design solutions. The student develops projects of small scale, but requiring a comprehensive design workshop - from planning, through volume architecture and landscape to solving details.
